I have a wierd thing where despite modbros and hwinfo both being run as admin modbros doesn't recognize hwinfo. Open hardware and Libre mostly work, though neither can consistently get my cpu temp.

Did you start HWiNFO in sensors-only mode as described here in the FAQ?
If yes and it still does not work try the following:
close it and start it again normally (with 'Sensors-only' and 'Summary-only' NOT selected)
go to Program -> Settings
under the 'General / User Interface' tab make sure Shared Memory Support is enabled
click OK, close hwinfo and reopen it in sensors-only mode
I did not start it as described in the faq, and starting it sensors only did the trick
